One tap per side
Tap Left or Right on Today, or on the Ella widget on your Android home screen. The timer keeps running on the lock screen, so you can put the phone down and hold the baby with both arms.
Start left or right with one tap. Ella times each side, highlights the one that comes next and shows everyone how long it has been since the last feed.

Tap Left or Right on Today, or on the Ella widget on your Android home screen. The timer keeps running on the lock screen, so you can put the phone down and hold the baby with both arms.
The next side is highlighted in the app and on the widget. At 3 a.m. there is nothing to remember and nothing to write on a sticky note.
Tap the other side when the baby switches. Ella keeps a separate time for each side in the same feed, so the journal shows exactly how the feed went.
Log expressed milk or formula by bottle, including a top-up after nursing. Daily charts add up the bottles, and nursing time is never converted into a made-up amount.
The time since the last feed sits at the top of Today and runs as a counter on the Android widget. Your partner sees it too, without asking.
Your partner sees the feed the moment you save it, and can log the next bottle or nursing session from their own phone or browser.
A feed only needs a side and a time. Ella fills in the time for you when you tap Left or Right, and stops the side when you tap it again or switch. Notes are optional: add one when something stands out, like a sleepy feed or a new latch, and skip it the rest of the time. The fewer taps a feed takes, the more likely it is to be logged at 3 a.m.
Many couples split the night: one parent feeds, the other burps, changes and settles. With a shared journal the second parent can see the side and the time on their own phone and log the diaper that follows, without waking anyone to ask. In the morning, a short summary shows what happened overnight and who logged it.
Check-ups tend to start with the same questions: how often, how long, which side, how many diapers. On Android, Ella turns the last days into a clear PDF summary you can show or send, and the Charts tab has the daily numbers on screen. Ella shows what you logged; your pediatrician or lactation consultant is the one to interpret it.

The baby stirs. Before you pick them up, a glance at the widget shows the time since the last feed and which side is next. Tap that side, feed, tap the other side if you switch, and tap once more when you are done. The phone can go back on the nightstand; the entry is already in the shared journal.
Some feeds end with a bottle top-up, and some days include pumping. Log the bottle with its amount right after the nursing entry, and pumping as its own activity. Ella keeps them apart, so the charts show nursing time, bottle amounts and pumped milk separately and nothing is counted twice.
The nursing chart shows the feeds you logged each day. Tap a day to see the exact numbers. It is a picture of what you logged, not a target, and it is there when you want to look back, not something you have to check.
Some evenings bring feed after feed. Log each one with a tap; the journal shows them in order with the time between them, and the counter on the widget keeps restarting, so you always know how long it has been since the latest one.
If the baby takes one side per feed, tap it and stop. If they switch, tap the other side; Ella keeps both times in the same feed. The highlight on the next side follows whatever you did last.
Parents without the Android app can log nursing from any browser, with the same Left and Right buttons and the same shared timer.
If a partner gives a bottle at night so you can sleep, they log it from their phone. In the morning, the journal shows the whole night, and the next side is still highlighted for your first feed.
